Design
In Greek mythology, Prometheus stole fire from the gods. He brought technology to the human race. Literally, his name means “forethought.”
We believe that well built homes start at the drawing board---with a great deal of forethought.
Design is not just about style or texture. Or energy efficiency. Or floor plans. Or lighting. Or water management. Great designs emerge when all of these concepts are integrated into a coherent plan.
We put first things first. It starts with a site evaluation, which should influence the shape and size of the building. Without context, most designs fail to sit well on the land. Next, we use your input to help design the building to reflect your personality, your aesthetic preferences, your needs. When we get it right, both function and form work together.
Our goal is to create a house that has integrity. How do we define integrity?
FUNCTIONAL HEALTHFUL
AESTHETICALLY PLEASING DURABLE
ENERGY EFFICIENT CONTEXTUAL
RESOURCE EFFICIENT
This is a very strong list, yet we still haven’t mentioned one of the most powerful issues---money.
If you are like most people, buying or building a house will be the single biggest financial decision you will
ever make. And your budget will dictate some of your choices.
In the design process, our job is to help you determine the most cost effective option(s). That is one of the main reasons we promote the design/build model. As the designer and builder, we maintain complete control of the process. This helps contain costs and bring the project in on budget.
Finally, although we are passionate about building energy efficient houses, we know that this is not the goal. The goal is a satisfied and happy homeowner.
